STORM SHIELD Hurricane Barriers are engineered, manufactured, and installed in accordance with Miami-Dade County NOA, the Florida Building Code, SBCCI, IBC, the Texas Department of Insurance, and other governing body requirements. Select the barrier style to fit your needs.
Six Barrier Styles
Ready Mount
Consisting of a barrier, header, sill, clip angles, and stainless steel securing pins, the Ready Mount is a "put up take down" unit that can be left in place or removed for storage at the discretion of the customer.
Fixed Mount
A Fixed Mount unit is permanently installed over an opening. Fixed Mount units are in place twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and require no preparation in the event of a hurricane.
Bahama Mount
Unlike conventional Bahama shutters, STORM SHIELD's Bahama shutter design allows a high ratio of light transmittance. The unit quickly retracts and locks into place with four easy push pins.
Side Hinge
STORM SHIELD Hurricane Barriers can be fitted with two side hinges to allow access for cleaning and maintenance. Side hinged units can also be fitted with a lock.
Side Hinge with Security Egress
Fitted with a panic release latch, this style is used when the barrier must be opened in the event of a fire or life safety emergency.
Top Hinge
Fitted with two top hinges for cleaning and maintenance access and secured with stainless steel securing pins positioned inside or outside the unit.
How to Choose a Style
All six styles use the same heavy-duty perforated InvisiPerf™ barrier and welded aluminum frame. The difference is how the barrier is attached and how it moves:
- Leave it up all year with no storm preparation: choose Fixed Mount, ideal for second-floor windows and fixed glass.
- Store it in the off-season: choose Ready Mount, which slides into permanent tracks when a storm is coming.
- Shade the window and close it fast: choose Bahama Mount, a practical in-place system for multi-story properties.
- Open the barrier for cleaning or ventilation: choose Side Hinge or Top Hinge.
- Allow emergency escape from inside: choose Side Hinge with Security Egress, which has a single-point panic release.
